Match report: Leeds 1-1 West Brom

Leeds United went back to the top of the EFL Championship as they ended West Bromwich Albion’s unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 win at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Left-back Ezgjan Alioski scored the only goal of the game in the 38th minute by firing a shot into the bottom corner of West Brom’s goal, via a big deflection off Kyle Bartley.

Slaven Bilic’s side have now fallen behind in eight of their 10 league games now but this was the first time they were not able to fight back and rescue something from the game.

The result sees Leeds top the table with 20 points, one ahead of West Brom and Nottingham Forest directly below them, whilst Swansea City can jump from sixth to first with three points away to Charlton Athletic on Wednesday.

Leeds United dominated the first half at Elland Road on Tuesday night before taking the lead. However, Marcelo Bielsa’s side were under intense pressure as the game wore on.

However, the Baggies failed to create a single clear-cut opportunity all game.

Leeds had only taken one point from their previous two games, and despite this evening’s victory, they have now only scored four goals in their five games at Elland Road this season.
