Norwich City are closing in on promotion to the Premier League and the Championship title following a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough in this evening’s kickoff.
A brilliant strike from Onel Hernandez 10 minutes after the break was enough to earn Daniel Farke’s side the three points.
The Canaries were denied by two excellent saves from Darren Randolph in the first half but ran out deserved winners as hosts Middlesbrough very rarely threatened to score all game.
Victory has moved Norwich City five points clear of Leeds United in second and seve ahead of Sheffield United as the Blades were surprisingly beaten 3-2 at home by Bristol City earlier in the day. Each team has just seven fixtures remaining and this was Norwich’s seventh successive league win since their defeat at Preston North End in mid-February.
Onel Hernandez produced the moment of magic with a 20-yard effort into the near post that caught Randolph out. The goalkeeper would have been unsighted at first.
Norwich City supporters will fancy their chances of their side making it 10 successive wins come mid-April as their next three fixtures are back-to-back home games against Queens Park Rangers and Reading, and then away to Wigan Athletic – all teams near the bottom of the table.
This was Middlesbrough’s fourth successive defeat and one that leaves them outside of the play-offs for the first time since August.
