Middlesbrough and Derby County played out a 1-1 draw at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday lunchtime as both sides benefited from an own goal.
Frank Lampard’s side were dominant during the opening 20 minutes as they took the lead through a George Friend own goal following pressure from Martyn Waghorn on the goalline.
The visitors notably tired during the first half the press that Frank Lampard has employed since taking charge over the summer was somewhat lacklustre.
With no energy Derby invited pressure onto them and it paid off for the hosts who equalised in the 84th minute when teenage full-back Jayden Bogle horribly sliced an attempted clearance into his own net.
It has been a busy month for Lampard’s side – facing three of the top six in the space of eight days. They have every reason to be delighted and optimistic having taken seven points from these fixtures.
The result moved Tony Pulis’ side up to second in the table, behind Sheffield United on goal difference. The Blades host Wigan Athletic later today, whilst Leeds United could move back above Boro by avoiding defeat at home to Nottingham Forest in the Championship’s evening kickoff.
