Aston Villa loan Ligue 1 star

Aston Villa have today confirmed a deal with French Ligue 1 club Lille to bring Anwar El Ghazi in on a season-long loan.

The Dutch international scored four goals and recorded a further four assists in 27 Ligue 1 appearances (19 starts) last season.

El Ghazi has been with the French club since joining from Ajax in 2017.

The 23-year-old joins goalkeeper Andre Moreira and centre-back Axel Tuanzebe as players joining the West Midlands club on loan this season, whilst goalkeeper Orjan Nylund was signed from Ingolstadt and John McGinn joined from Scottish Premier League side Hibernian earlier this summer.

It was reported over the summer that the Villans had financial problems. The experienced trio of John Terry, Gabby Agbonlahor and Chris Samba were all released at the start of last month.

Anwar El Ghazi offers an excellent attacking prospect to the ranks at Villa Park. The two-time Netherlands international has a good long-range shot on him and is a good free kick taker. He is capable of playing adequately on both wings.
