Derby sign Waghorn from Ipswich

Derby County have added another attacking option to their side by completing the signing of Martyn Waghorn from fellow Championship side Ipswich Town, the club have today confirmed.

The 28-year-old had an impressive 2017-18 campaign for the Tractor Boys by scoring 16 goals and laying on 11 assists in 44 matches (39 starts).

It had previously been reported that Waghorn had been one of Frank Lampard’s top targets for the Rams since being appointed as manager earlier in the summer. Reports in July suggested Derby could be looking to pay around £8 million for his services, but the club have not disclosed the fee.

The 28-year-old forward has really struggled for goals throughout his career, even only scoring seven goals in 32 appearances in the Scottish Premiership with Rangers in 2016-17. This will be his third club in as many seasons.

Martyn Waghorn becomes Derby’s seventh summer signing under new manager Lampard, following the arrivals of Mason Mount (loan), Harry Wilson (loan), Florian Jozefzoon, Jack Marriott, George Evans and Fikayo Tomori (loan) to Pride Park.

Following their 2-1 win at Reading on the opening day of the Championship season, Derby County host rivals Leeds United this Saturday.
