Derby sign Malone

Derby County have completed the signing of left-back Scott Malone from Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee, the club have announced.

The 27-year-old made 22 Premier League appearances (12 starts) as part of David Wagner’s side that avoid relegation at the first time of asking.

Malone will be playing for his fourth club in as many seasons after spending a year with Fulham prior to joining Huddersfield last summer, and Cardiff City previously.

The left-back will be an upgrade on Craig Forsyth defensively, but doesn’t offer as good crossing ability as the Rams’ defender from last season. Youngster Max Lowe started for Frank Lampard’s side in their 2-1 victory at Reading last Friday.

Scott Malone becomes Lampard’s eighth summer signing following the arrivals of Mason Mount (loan), Harry Wilson (loan), Florian Jozefzoon, George Evans, Jack Marriott, Fikayo Tomori (loan) and Martyn Waghorn.

The East Midlands club have confirmed that their latest acquisition has signed a three-year contract, keeping him at Pride Park until 2021.
