Aston Villa have completed the season-long loan signing of Manchester United youngster Axel Tuanzebe, the West Midlands club have announced today.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan under Steve Bruce, making 19 appearances in the Championship in which Aston Villa reached the play-off final only to lose 1-0 to Fulham at Wembley Stadium.
Tuanzebe adds depth to the Villans’ defence following the retirement of the experienced John Terry over the summer as well as the sale of Jordan Amavi to Marseille and the release of Chris Samba.
The young centre-back will compete with James Chester, Tommy Elphick and James Bree for a starting role in Bruce’s lineup. He made four Premier League starts during the 2016-17 season before only making one late substitute appearance before dropping down a division to join Villa on loan.
Axel Tuanzebe won’t be eligible to face Hull City at the Kingston Communications Stadium in each club’s Championship season opener tonight.
