Match Report: Hull 1-3 Aston Villa

Aston Villa came from behind to start their Championship season with a 3-1 victory at Hull City on Monday night.

The hosts took the lead when goalkeeper Jed Steer failed to deal with a right-wing cross to set up Evandro to loop the ball home from 20 yards.

Steve Bruce’s side didn’t let their heads drop after falling behind on seven minutes and quickly responded through centre-back Tommy Elphick.

The Villans took all three points in the final 20 minutes, first with former-Hull winger Ahmed Elmohamady pouncing on a poor clearance from David Marshall to give the East Midlands club the lead.

Further sloppy defending from the Tigers gifted Alan Hutton a third goal for Aston Villa to seal the victory.

Following financial problems over the summer it is a positive start for Bruce’s side who will be looking to bring further players in before the end of the summer transfer window. Earlier today it was confirmed Axel Tuanzebe will be rejoining from Manchester United on loan.
