Frank Lampard started his managerial career with a dramatic stoppage time victory at Reading as Derby County were victors in the opening game of the 2018-19 EFL Championship season.
The hosts took a deserved lead shortly after the break through Jón Daði Böðvarsson before Mason Mount, on loan from Chelsea, saw his 25-yard effort squirm past Vito Mannone on the hour.
As the game went on, the hosts began to sit back and invite pressure on themselves. It backfired as Mason Bennett’s cross with the final kick of the game was headed in superbly by Tom Lawrence to snatch a 94th minute winner for the Rams.
Much attention has been on Derby County following the appointment of Frank Lampard this summer. His team looked second best for the majority of the game but have every reason to be proud of their efforts in the final 20 minutes as they were able to take the game to Reading and force a winner.
As well as Mount, Harry Wilson, on loan from Liverpool, made his debut for the Rams.
