Bristol City have picked up former Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa on a free transfer, the club have today confirmed.
The 33-year-old had spent pre-season on trial with the Robins before signing a one-year contract that has the option for a further 12 months.
Maenpaa’s arrival comes at a vital time just days before the start of the 2018-19 Championship season after regular first choice Frank Fielding was recently sidelined for three months with a hip injury.
The 26-time Finnish international made only one league appearance for Brighton during his three seasons as a backup. He spent the majority of his career in the Netherlands, playing for Den Bosch, Willem II, AZ Alkmaar and VVV-Venlo from 2006 up until his move to the Seagulls in 2015.
Bristol City are at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday 4 August for whom it was confirmed earlier today that goalkeeper Luke Steele has joined on a free transfer following his release from Ashton Gate.
21-year-old Max O’Leary is the only other first team goalkeeper available to Lee Johnson after the youngster spent last season on loan at Solihull Moors in the National League.
