Bolton sign experienced midfielder Wilson

Bolton Wanderers have completed the signing of Marc Wilson on a free transfer, the Greater Manchester club have confirmed.

The 30-year-old signs a one-year deal at the Macron Stadium following his release by Sunderland earlier this summer.

Wilson brings a wealth of experience in the top two divisions to the Trotters having started his career with Portsmouth and spending six years with Stoke City.

The Republic of Ireland international also enjoyed a brief spell at Bournemouth in 2016 before being shifted out on loan to West Bromwich Albion.

Marc Wilson started off as a defender before being moved into a holding midfield role in recent seasons.  He made 22 appearances for Sunderland last season but couldn’t help the Northeast club from relegation to League One.

He becomes the ninth player Bolton Wanderers have picked up on a free transfer this summer, following Clayton Donaldson (Sheffield United), Stephen Duke-McKenna (Everton), Chiori Johnson (Arsenal), Jason Lowe (Birmingham City), Erhun Oztumer (Walsall), Joe Pritchard (Tottenham Hotspur) and Paweł Olkowski (FC Koeln).
