Sheffield United have completed the signing of Brentford captain John Egan for an undisclosed club-record fee, the Yorkshire club has confirmed.
The 25-year-old has signed a four-year contract at Bramall Lane.
Egan scored seven goals in his 71 matches for the Bees during his team seasons in the Championship following his transfer from Gillingham in 2016.
The centre-back’s impressive performances earned him his first call-up to the Republic of Ireland national team last year and has since gone on to earn two caps under Martin O’Neill.
John Egan had a very brief spell with the Blades back in 2012 but only made one appearance whilst on loan from Sunderland, with whom he progressed through the youth ranks.
The 6’1″ Irish international isn’t afraid to put his body in front of the ball to block opposition shots and at the other end he is a set from set pieces as shown by his goalscoring record at both Brentford and Gillingham previously.
