Bolton extend Ameobi contract

Sammy Ameobi has signed a new two-year contract with Bolton Wanderers, the Greater Manchester club have confirmed.

The 26-year-old initially joined the Trotters on a one-year deal last summer and helped the club avoid relegation from the Championship.

Ameobi made 35 appearances (33 starts) in the second tier last season, scoring four goals and recording two assists down the wing.

The younger brother of former Newcastle United striker Shola, Ameobi spent the first half of the 2016-17 season on loan at the Macron Stadium, and has also experienced loan spells in the Championship with both Middlesbrough and Cardiff City.

Ameobi failed to get much of a look in at Newcastle United, where he came through the youth ranks before making his debut in 2011.  He made sporadic appearances for the next couple of seasons at St James’ Park before he earned 25 Premier League appearances during their 2014-15 campaign.

Bolton Wanderers start their Championship season at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday 4 August.
